Lately, I’ve spent a lot of travel time waiting……waiting for a fight, waiting for the class to start, waiting for an event, etc. Some good waiting, other times dreadful. While i’m waiting, i am drawing. I’ve been faithfully carrying around my little handbook journal for the past year to capture my moments with sketching, doodling, and a lot of color.
I recently watched my friend Jane LaFazio’s fabulous interview (here on Jane’s blog) with Danny Gregory, my favorite “drawing artist“. Jane’s interview inspired me to take “notes” on Danny’s thoughts and creative practices. He’s brilliant.
Here’s my list of why i draw in my illustrated sketchbook every day,
and why i think YOU should too!….
…….and it’s just FUN!!!
On that note, need more inspiration?

I just love your sketchbook! Wow. I try to journal every day, but I did want to draw more. It looks like watercolor on your beautiful pages, but are those markers you use?
Joanne,Thanks for sharing. I am just about to finish your letter love class and I have learned so much. It has taken me all summer to fit it in here and there and mull over all the techniques. I am teaching at a summer art camp at the local YMCA . I alway do sketchbooks the first week. It relaxes the kids and gets them to loosen up with me and each other – drawing is like that. Tomorrow I am going to show them a simplified version of your painted paper technique. I know they will LOVE doing it. Thanks again for being such a generous sharing teacher.
Love your sketchbook/journal. Your calligraphy is tops. Love the colors splashed throughout as well.
How fabulous are you? I'd say very! Beautiful work, beautiful lady.
